Were continuing to expand our organization, and we are recruiting a Systems Engineer to play a vital role in building Eatons next generation of edge device analytics platforms.

The successful applicants will provide the skills to design the hardware and software interface between the main microcontroller of a product and its coprocessor, including prototypes building, testing, and final product integration testing. Furthermore, they will aid the development and performance analysis of analytics workloads. They will be required to provide expertise for the full hardware integration, from requirements and high-level design all the way though to delivery, in an agile environment and working closely with business units.

This is a Hybrid role, 3 days presence in the office is required.

Our site is in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop Software and communication infrastructure to deploy analytics to edge devices.
  • Work with their team and others, contributing to technical deliverables, design, development, and testing and delivery of prototype and pre-production firmware and software.
  • Develop solution features from technical requirements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, engineering, and test to deliver high quality solutions that solve end-user problems.
  • Take part in grooming Scrum backlogs and sprint planning.
  • Support software QA and drives improving quality metrics.
  • Apply industry-standard tools and best practices for embedded software development, including version control, CI/CD, and static analysis.
  • Explore and recommend new tools and processes which can improve efficiency and compliance.
  • Create and run DSP and machine learning workloads on the target hardware.
  • Develop signal processing algorithms taking advantage of accelerated microcontroller instructions.
  • Provide guidance on hardware-software integration, including interface definition, signal integrity considerations, and PCB layout collaboration.
  • Develop a software-in-the-loop and processor-in-the-loop test harness for the target hardware.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors or higher Degree(s) in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
  • 2-4 years of professional experience developing embedded C/C++, with a proven track record of shipping high quality products.
  • Professional experience of a source code control system, preferably Git.
  • C/C++ build systems, cross-compilation, and multiple code repositories.
  • Development for real-time embedded Linux or RTOS, including thread synchronisation and communication and memory management.
  • Good Hardware knowledge including understanding schematics and using HW drivers to achieve optimal communication.
  • Working knowledge of inter-chip protocols and drivers (e.g. SPI, I2C), including the use of DMA.
  • Experience in using signal processing algorithms (e.g. FFT, DWT, Digital Filtering).
  • Matlab/Simulink code generation for embedded microcontrollers.
  • Proven debugging skills rooted in an understanding of the underlying technologies.
  • Abreast of upcoming software development/engineering tools, trends, and methodologies including Agile / Scrum.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills including the ability to clearly explain technical concepts.
  • Is dependable, accountable, and has strong time management and prioritization skills.
Preferred Expertise (in one or more of the following areas):
  • Unit testing, with a testing framework, as part of the development process.
  • Build and test automation (e.g., CI/CD workflows in GitHub Actions).
  • Cybersecurity best practices, information and physical security, encryption, and secure coding practices.
  • System simulation (e.g., QEMU, Renode).
  • Knowledge of Software design principles and architecture patterns (e.g. SOLID, dependency injection, layered architecture).
